I don't know how Ricky Lombardo keeps on producing flute ensemble writing of this quality but I'm so glad he does. This particular gem roughly divides the group into 3 + 2 so there is a 'safety in numbers' element to the ensemble set up - so helpful when training younger players. This piece is rhythmically straightforward and the note ranges reasonable for all parts. It's quite fast though (Flusters) and there are some really crunchy harmonies (Clusters). It's best with alto and bass flutes but doesn't come to grief without and even the piccolo could be dispensed with. It might not be to everyone's taste but believe me - it's fun!
