Theodore Winkler 1834-1905 was an active flutist and composer. His compositions are largely lost; only his Flute conerto op 5 and a Romance Op 4 have survived. Fortunately, the Capriccio Op 3, an extraordinarily subtle composition of excellent salon music, also belongs to this group. Above a tasteful piano accompaniment, the flute part prances teasingly and with much charm in a simple three-part formal movement arrangement. This entertaining work is effective and ideally suited as an encore.
