This piece uses quotes from the symphonic literature (or perhaps 'misquotes'). The rapid tonguing passages are inspired by the flute solo from Saint-Saens Carnival of the Animals. Every flutist will recognize the infamous 'flute-lick' from Peter and the Wolf. Also included are bits of Ravel's Daphnis and a quirky distortion of L'Apres Midi. Improvisation is encouraged in all three parts throughout the piece.
Amazingly fun for performers and audiences, this is an effective closer or encore work. The words are very clever and aimed at helping flutists to laugh at themselves.
