The Berceuse for a Princess of Wilfried Westerlinck was originally written as a piano solo, part of a project of the Flemish Composers' Union. It was a gift to King Filip on the occasion of his crowning in 2004. The title refers to his oldest daughter, crown princess Elisabeth, who herself plays piano.
