Flute Octet ( double quartet) 6 flutes, 2 alto flutes. An arrangement of one of Gustav Holst's earlier works, originally for eight part women's voices. Lush harmonies and simple flowing lines build to create a beautifully elegant sound world. The statement and answer sections mean that this piece works well antiphonally with the two quartets separated, but is just as good as a large choir piece. The relatively straightforward lines and simpler instrumentation make this an ideal piece for flute choirs that do not possess the larger instruments.
