This is a sparkling arrangement of Vivaldi's classic and unusally the solo part is spread around the group. This means that balancing the textures is the real challenge. The parts are straightforward so intermediate to advance groups with access to alto and bass flutes will be able to put it all together without too much stress and will absolutely love it!
Antonio Vivaldis third concerto from The Four Seasons, Autumn, describes the harvesting time of year. The music is full of grateful happiness: Movement 1 (Allegro) is built after a drinking song of the peasants you can find a festive Ritornell, happy dancing rhythms, even a hiccup of the drunk men and finally (Movement 2, Adagio molto) everybody is gently falling asleep. The 3rd movement (Allegro) describes another topic of the Autumn season the hunt. Dotted rhythms imitate horn signals, accents symbolize gunshots, and fast scales and arpeggios remind of the wild animals, who escape running and jumping.
In this arrangement for flute quintet I adopted the difficulties of the Violin solo part to the possibilities of the flute. Scales and arpeggios can be executed in a moderate technical level and every part has an interesting task. It will be a festive contribution to any 'Thanksgiving' or 'Season's opening' program.
