The two movements that make up this unusual quartet are based on poems by Vicotr Hugo. The French text is included both complete and also interpersed throughout the parts so that you can see what is supposed to be happening at any point. The style here is a mixture of basic extended techniques (flutter tonguing, tongue rams etc) and normal notation. Both pieces are slow so there is plenty of time to change and the result will allow intermediate players the chance to start experimenting with sonorities. This is a really good piece for a school concert - trust me!
