Krzysztof Penderecki's soulful "Aria" has long been considered a standard work. The harmonic structure, reminiscent of baroque ostinatos, forms the basis for the cantilene in arios form. Originally composed for string orchestra, the work is now available in an arrangement for wind quintet and enriches the repertoire as a short intermezzo in the concert programme.
