Written to be a challenging, but accessible piece, Antique Variations takes the players through a variety of musical forms from the Baroque and Classical eras.
While this 'looking back in time' is fundamental to the work, the variations also pay homage to the styles of various 20th Century composers.
This piece was written somewhat 'in reverse' as the opening theme is derived from the basic interval of the Dance at the end, and all the subsequent variations build on these intervals to finally arrive at the Dance itself.
