Emil Prill (1867-1940) is often overlooked but this piece definitely warrants further investigation. He was a very successful professional flute player in Germany and a renowned teacher. so it's no surprise to find that this lovely piece lies really well under the fingers. The E major Andante has chromatic interest in the harmony and the flute swirls around over the top. The Tarantella is in E minor and here the flute has all the glory. This is a good introduction to the more difficult works in this genre - preparation is all!
