We have Theobald Boehm to thank for the alto flute and he also left us a wonderful legacy of the arrangements he made in order to promote it. This one is lovely! He penned the original himself and made very few accommodating adjustments to the flute line. Starting with a simple melody the piece becomes more animated with ever increasing harmonic tension and some very dramatic writing for the alto which uses the full compass of the instrument. The ending dies away peacefully. This is a great recital piece and audiences will fall in love with both you and your instrument as soon as they hear it!
