“Good concert repertoire”
This is a nice addition to the flute/oboe repertoire from Gary Schocker. Everything here is interesting, well-crafted and playable. 'Saucisson sec' drives along rhythmically with plenty of interplay between the three instruments. 'Pain au chocolat' is slow and lyrical, while 'Cornichons' is a quirky and challenging 12/8 jig. There is nothing else quite like this for this combination, and any movement would bring an attractive change of style in a recital.
The amuse-bouche, not an appetizer, per se, is an offering intended to set the table, prepare the palate, for a main course to follow. In this vein, Schocker's three short tastings will set up a program of flute and oboe duets in fine fashion. Each of the three movements (saucisson sec, pain au chocolat, and cornichons) stands alone and reflects Schocker's mastery of beautiful melodic lines. For advanced performers.
