A Visit from St. Nicholas was commissioned by the Schaafritz Duo for their annual Christmas concert in 2022.
A Visit from St. Nicholas uses the poem of the same name written by Clement Clarke Moore set for narrator, flute, violin, and piano. The piece is set from the viewpoint of the main character who is uneasy about the unexpected meeting with St. Nicholas and his rein-deer to his home where everyone is already is asleep. The apprehension quickly gives way to embracing the magic of Christmas once the narrator sees St. Nicholas in action.
