It is quite unusual to find music for flute and percussion that can be played by students of an intermediate standard so these five pieces are really interesting. The writing is approachable, with the rhythms being challenging but perfectly playable. The percussion instruments used include bass drum, bongos, cowbells and cymbals and the instructions are very clear. The flute part uses flutter tonguing and there is some scope for improvisation. 2 scores are provided to prevent the players getting lost! This would be a very good introduction to the world of contemporary music.
